Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has launched the Journalism Innovation Hub project to boost digital innovation in TV news programmes.

The project, for which Telefónica has becoming RTVE's first partner, aims to integrate digital tools and process across the news chain, from the reporting and filming phase to broadcasting and storage. The project will also study the possibilities of augmented and virtual reality, social media broadcasting and automation tools for metadata and indexing.

"We intend to innovate when the news happens, thanks to alert system, social media analysis and monitoring tools; in the news gathering phase through mobile journalism, citizen journalism and on-the-go, cloud editing tools; and during reporting and edition, with automated platforms," explained the Spanish broadcaster.

RTVE also intends to integrate other innovation projects and systems in the hub, like Alert Reporter, Visual Media, 5G Media, My RTVE, or Arca 3.0. Besides, it's open to private partners which share an interest in new video technologies, with Telefónica being the first one to sign in.

The telco will focus on alternative ways of reaching audiences as well as studying how 5G could have an effect on broadcast and communications.
