Reliance Big TV launches subscription-free offer

Indian direct-to-home (DTH) operator Reliance Big TV has unveiled a subscription-free pay-TV service and free-to-air (FTA) channels through its latest HD HEVC set-top box (STB), for a promotional period.

Pre-booking for the box and outdoor unit opens on 1 March. Equipment will cost a total fee of INR1,999 (US$30.65), with a booking deposit of INR499 ($7.65) required up front.

Once installed, the 500 free-to-air (FTA) channel package will be offered without charge for a five-year period, while the premium pay-TV channels will remain free for a year.

The equipment purchase cost of INR1,999 will be reimbursed in the form of recharge to those who retain the service after the second year, and then pay a continuous monthly amount of INR300 ($4.60) for the pay channels over the next two years.

"Today, Reliance Big TV is going to mark the beginning of a new dawn in the way Indians have been accessing entertainment on their TV sets. Starting from today, entertainment comes effectively free of cost, with the latest offer by Reliance Big TV," said Vijender Singh, director, Reliance Big TV .

"Now every Indian household can enjoy high-quality home entertainment and students can have free of cost access to education content with latest HD HEVC set top box".

The HD HEVC STB offers schedule recording, a USB port, YouTube, and the ability to record and view channels simultaneously.
