The Spanish media company Mediaset has delivered its best profit margins since 2008, increasing last year’s net profit by over 15%.
Leading advertising investment for another year, Mediaset ended 2017 with €197.5 million in net profits following a successful 2016.
Business is clearly bond to ad sales for the firm which invoiced €946.4 million through advertising over the past year, 43.3% of Spain’s free-to-air (FTA) ad market. These figures show that Mediaset has increased its lead against rival Atresmedia, which reported a 41.4% share of the market.
The rising ad revenues are directly related to Mediaset’s leading position with Spain’s FTA audience, even though it has weakened throughout the year. The group’s seven linear channels averaged a 28.7% share, with Telecinco being the most watched network for the sixth year in a row (with a 13.3% average share).
Compared to advertising, Mediaset’s other revenue sources are not as strong. The company invoiced €67.6 million for non-ads sales, mostly thanks to content production.
The media group has also reported an EBITDA of €262.2 million, up 8.8% on 2016.
