A day after principal rival Mediaset published its yearly results, Atresmedia has also claimed record revenues and profits.
The Spanish media company has ended 2017 with €142 million in profit, up 10% compared with 2016 and the firm's best result since 2008,. This is though over €50 million less than that generated by its arch-rival in the free-to-air (FTA) stakes. In fact, the main difference between both companies' financial results is in FTA sales. Atresmedia reported €917.9 million invoiced through TV advertising, while Mediaset delivered €946 million.
Together, the two media companies account for almost 85% of the total FTA ads revenues in Spain.
A similar competitive situation is showed in terms of audience. As a group, Atresmedia averaged a 26.6% share (29.8% in prime time), lead by Antena 3, which reached an average 12.3% share throughout 2017. On the other hand, Mediaset reported a 28.7% share and Telecinco a 13.3%.
As well as Atresmedia continuing to grow across the digital, online scenario. The group averaged 15.8 million unique users across its digital properties (29% more than in 2016) and the free video-on-demand (VOD) and live streaming platform Atresplayer has 5.2 million registered users, half of which use it every month.
