SpaceX finally launches Hispasat 30W-6

The Hispasat 30W-6 satellite has been launched on board a SpaceX Falcon 9, following further testing of the payload fairing’s pressurization system.

The satellite was launched into space from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 will be responsible for putting H30W-6 into its transfer orbit, from where the satellite will move towards the geostationary orbit where for a few weeks tests will be carried out to make sure it is functioning correctly.

The satellite will then be placed at its final orbital position of 30° West, where it will replace and broaden the capacity of the Hispasat 30W-4.

Manufactured by Space Systems Loral in Palo Alto, California, the satellite aims to boost video content distribution in Latin America, as well as increase Hispasat's offer in C and Ku bands.

The Hispasat 30W-6 is also intended to increase connectivity and reduce the digital divide in LATAM, the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa, and provide connectivity in high-speed rail and maritime services in the Caribbean and Mediterranean.
