Principal photography has begun in Istanbul on Netflix' first Turkish original series, ahead of its release later this year, the video streaming giant has announced.

The ten-episode super hero fantasy, created by Binnur Karaevli, stars Cagatay Ulusoy, Okan Yalabik, Ayca Aysin Turan, Hazar Erguclu and Mehmet Kurtulus.

Directed by Can Evrenol with cinematography by award-winning Gokhan Tiryaki, the series follows the adventure of Hakan (Cagatay Ulusoy), a young shopkeeper whose modern world gets turned upside down when he learns he's connected to a secret, ancient order, tasked with protecting Istanbul.

"At the story's start, Hakan couldn't be further from a hero - just an ordinary guy in this city of 15 million, where East meets West and past meets present. He must quickly learn that his hometown is under threat from the mysterious, mystical Immortals, and it's his job to stop them," said Netflix in a statement.
Produced for the subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service by Istanbul's O3 Medya, the show's production design is by Deniz Gokturk, with visual effects by Gradient Effects. Onur Guvenatam is executive producer.

The series will expand the Turkish content currently available on Netflix, which includes licensed dramas Magnificent Century, Ezel and Lovebird.
