In a move which strengthens their alliance, Televisa has named Univision Deportes president Juan Carlos Rodríguez chief as the new head of its sports division.

In his new role, Rodríguez will coordinate the production and distribution of all the sports content Televisa produces across every platform.

Rodríguez will continue in his current role, which, according to Televisa, will help both companies coordinate strategies and coverage for future sporting events, particularly for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Rodríguez will replace Yon de Luisa, who has been appointed president of the Mexican football federation.

Rodríguez has grown Univision Deportes’ business by expanding its footprint across all of UCI platforms and has led Univision Deportes Network to be one of the fastest growing sports networks since its launch in 2012 and one of the leading sports destinations in the US.

Prior to Univision Deportes, Rodriguez, who will now report to Alfonso de Angoitia and Bernardo Gómez, co-CEOs of Televisa, himself served as CEO of Televisa Deportes Network.
