Global indie studio Propagate Content has hired Laurie Girion as EVP, non-scripted content to oversee creative development and production of non-scripted content material.
Girion has spent her career developing new material in a series of overall deals with both major studios, including Fox TV Studios, CBS and Sony TV, and independent leaders such as Pilgrim Media Group and Shed Media. She has also produced hundreds of hours of alternative programming for broadcast and cable television as a showrunner for hire.
Under her own Storyvision banner, Girion created and executive produced the critically acclaimed docu-series Cheerleader Nation for Lifetime, comedic competition series Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants for the CW, and documentary competition series Showville for AMC.
“Laurie is a highly respected showrunner and storyteller, and as we grow our creative ranks her expertise in the genre and leadership skills will be invaluable to us,” said Propagate co-CEOs Ben Silverman and Howard Owens. “We are bullish on the growth of unscripted, and are committed to creating, developing and producing the most interesting, culturally relevant stories for the widest possible audiences.”
Girion began her career as a screenwriter and movie producer, debuting two short films at the Telluride and Berlin Film Festivals. After a stint as a screenplay analyst for New Line Cinema, she joined MTV’s news and documentary department, where she produced shows for MTV’s True Life series, including then ratings record holder, True Life: I am a Cheerleader.
“Ben and Howard have such a phenomenal track record of success, and the excitement they bring every day to get out there and find, develop, collaborate and produce the stories that you are most passionate about is truly inspiring,” said Girion.
