Imagen TV, Mediapro to adapt Mediaset hit for Mexico

Free-to-air (FTA) network Imagen Televisión and Mediapro have reached an agreement to produce a Mexican version of the series Chiringuito de Pepe.

The TV show, originally produced in Spain by Mediapro’s unit 100 Balas and Mediaset España, will gain its first international adaptation with this agreement.

With Changarrito de Pepe as a provisional title, the local version of the show will start shooting during 2018 and will have 60 episodes. No locations or cast have yet been decided.

The original series has already aired in Latin America, across Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay, Peru, Venezuela and Puerto Rico, following a previous agreement between Mediaset and DIRECTV.

Chiringuito de Pepe was part of Mediaset’s prime time programming during 2015 and 2016. The series, broadcast by the FTA channel Telecinco, started with good audience digits (over four million viewers) but gradually lost appeal to finish with 2.3 million viewers and an average 13% share.
