Complying with the country's Supreme Court's, Mexico's watchdog has ruled that pay-TV giant Televisa is no longer a dominant player in the country's pay-TV market.

Following a sentence published last February, the IFT has now stated that there are not the necessary conditions to continue considering Televisa as a preponderant player, despite of controlling over 60% of the market, according to the latest figures.

As a result, Televisa won't have to comply with any of the measures established last year by the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) in order to boost competition within the market.

However, the decision might be temporary, as the IFT has announced a new market analysis to carried out, focusing on data between January 2009 and August 2014, which could be different from the current market situation.

Over the last months, several analyses have pointed out that Mexico's pay-TV is competitive in despite of Televisa's dominance.dominant position, and an asymmetric regulation could be counter-productive.
