ZEE5 unveils 20 original shows for spring

ZEE Entertainment has announced the launch of 20 original series and short films for its nascent ZEE5 digital platform this spring.

The originals - which provide content in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Bengali - will be available for streaming by the end of April 2018.

"Using our expertise as a global content company, ZEE5 Originals will feature a library of exclusive content which is relatable, understated, bold, progressive and layered making for an immersive experience keeping our core target engaged and stimulating their entertainment appetite in a language of their choice," said Amit Goenka, CEO, ZEE International and Z5 Global.

"ZEE5's technologically superior interface, be it voice search, progressive web app experience, content download options, multi-CDN strategy for an optimised video viewing experience, and multi-platform support have set it apart in the industry, making way for a 'glocal' content consumption shift amongst consumers," he added.

The new shows include nine Hindi web series (including Sunny Leone biopic Karenjit Kaur) and three Hindi short films. There will also be two Marathi web series, two Telugu web series, two Tamil web series, one Malayalam web series, and one Bengali movie.

An increase in children's programming is also planned for the over-the-top (OTT) streaming service, and by the end of March 2019, ZEE5 aims to host over 90 original shows across multiple genres.
