Spanish public broadcaster RTVE and Mexico’s Canal Once have inked an agreement to exchange original video content.

Through the deal, which will initially last until the end of 2018, both broadcasters will also consider the possibility of co-producing new formats.

“This deal is very important for our network as it will enable us to continue meeting the audience demands,” said Jimena Saldaña, director, Canal Once.

“This alliance has been formed following months of intense work between both broadcasters. We’re going through an increasing globalisation of the TV market and public networks have to work together,” added Eladio Jareño, director, TVE, RTVE’s TV division.

Based in Mexico City, Canal Once, which is owned by the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, is available throughout Mexico and part of the US thanks to local agreements with DIRECTV and VEMOX, among other platforms.
