Korean entertainment stalwart Infinite Challenge has come to an end after a 13-year run – with broadcaster MBC reportedly planning a music quiz show later this month to fill the gap.

MC Lee Soo Geun and singer Eun Ji Won, who worked together on the shows 2 Days and 1 Night and New Journey to the West, will host the new show, according to publication Soompi.

The hit show Infinite Challenge withstood changing broadcast environments, and even a strike by broadcast union members last year, which halted the production of many of South Korea’s TV programmes.

“It’s been hard to keep the show’s original colour while maintaining freshness ... I rarely had time for dinner with my wife and son over the past 13 years. I want to go back to my family,” said the show’s producer, Kim Tae-ho.

The final episode of Infinite Challenge attracted an 11.1% viewership rating, according to Nielsen Korea, the highest among shows aired in the same Saturday evening time slot.

“The show has been at the top of Korea’s entertainment shows for 13 years ... Without Infinite Challenge, MBC might have been ignored by viewers long ago,” MBC president Choi Seung-ho posted on Facebook after the show's final episode.
