Telemundo and Netflix have announced 22 April as the worldwide premiere date for the much anticipated Luis Miguel series.

For the US and Puerto Rico, the show is set to air on Telemundo every Sunday and Netflix will deliver the series on-demand throughout Latin America and Spain.

Even though Telemundo’s rival Univision is also producing its own series on the pop star, the Telemundo and Netflix show is the only authorised story about the artist, played by Diego Boneta.

Set in Mexico, the series Luis Miguel explores his childhood in the early 80s and what led up to his massive success as a recording artist in the 90s.

In addition to Boneta, the show’s cast includes Izan Llunas, Luis de la Rosa, Anna Favella and Juan Pablo Zurita. The series has been produced by NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and Gato Grande Productions, a joint venture between MGM and Mexican entrepreneurs Miguel Alemán Magnani and Antonio Cué Sánchez Navarro.
