The latest research from Dataxis has found that as of 2017, Latin America’s subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) market comprised 18.2 million active paid customers, representing an annual increase of 29.8%.

While impressive in itself, the research firm noted that such volume was equal to 25.2% of the total number of fixed broadband accesses, which says Dataxis indicates the SVOD market has more room to growth.

As is the case in the other main markets, Netflix remains the segment leader, increasing its share of the action from 59% to 63% accounts over the 12-month period. Brazil represents Netflix’s main market. Clarovideo, from América Móvil, is positioned at the second place with almost 20% of active paid accounts and Mexico is its main market.

The latter country remains the main market for the segment with 40.5% of the paid accounts, whereas Brazil is the fastest growing market in Latin America and is at second place with 35.1% of the paying subscribers. Dataxis regards both markets as exhibiting high levels of competition with 20 and 26 competitors respectively.
