Planning to improve broadband and mobile networks in Peru during 2018, Movistar is aiming to reach one million users for its Movistar Play service by the end of the year.

According to the telco giant, the live streaming TV and video-on-demand (VOD) platform already has 580,000 users in the country, up from the 300,000 in October 2017.

According to the telco, penetration of added-value services will increase along with better telecom infrastructure, which is why Movistar Peru has planned over $430 million in investment into mobile and fixed networks before December 2018.

The company claims it’s going to increase 4G penetration by 60% and bring its ultra-fast broadband to over half a million households with speeds up to 100Mbps.

“We want to be useful to the country and contribute to its development. Our contribution is boosting the digital revolution, which has a positive impact on people and businesses, as well as public administrations. We’re betting on connectivity, services integration and digitalisation,” said Pedro Cortez, CEO, Movistar Peru.
