Among Mexican premium telecom users paying over $28 per month, triple-play subscribers doubled over the last year.

According to the Cuarta Encuesta 2017, Usuarios de Servicios de Telecomunicaciones report published by the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT), 53.7% of telecom users paying between $28 and $38 per month are subscribed to triple-play services with pay-TV, broadband and mobile services.

By the end of 2016, the figure stood at 23.5%, meaning that triple-play service penetration has doubled within the group over the last 12 months. A similar rate is also reported among those paying over $38 per month, although that is a smaller increase, from 44.4% in 2016.

Among telecom users paying less than $28 per month, the IFT revealed that triple-play offerings are not the norm, being subscribed to by less than 6% of customers.

Taking into account only the pay-TV figures, it looks like premium TV services are gaining popularity as users increase their monthly budget for telecoms services.

However, single play direct-to-home (DTH) packages are more popular among those spending less than $17 per month, while double-play packages are preferred by users spending between $17-28 monthly.
