Mexico’s Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) has renewed TV Azteca’s concession to offer free-to-air broadcast television channels for a period of 20 years, effective as of 1 January, 2022.
The decision extends the availability of 178 television channels with which the national networks Azteca uno and Azteca 7 operate, as well as Televisora del Valle de México, which broadcasts the adn40 signal.
In the short term, TV Azteca will make a payment of $1.9 billion USD in fees.
“The company made the request having fulfilled all its obligations derived from the laws applicable and its concession titles, which were approved by the Compliance Unit, the Economic Competition Unit, the Radioelectric Spectrum Unit and the Media and Audiovisual Content Unit of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications,”TV Azteca said.
