A study from Digital TV Research is predicting that the global subscription video-on-demand market will have added $10 billion in extra business over the last year with revenues across 138 countries reaching $35.04 billion.
As well as the strong year-on-year growth, this total would represent more than triple 2015’s total. Digital TV Research also calculates that the market would have 474 million SVOD subscriptions globally by the end of this year, up by 108 million from a year earlier and up by 304 million on 2015.
One of the most interest trends revealed is that while the US will stay as the top-earning SVOD territory, its proportion of revenues will fall below majority status dropping from 56% of the global revenues in 2015 to 48%. However, in absolute terms the Digital TV Research SVOD Databook report notes that the country will add more than $10 billion in revenues over this period.
