Argonon-backed multi-genre production company Bandicoot has been commissioned by BBC Scotland to produce two 8 x 30 series of new quiz show format Test Drive.

Professional wrestler, actor and Scottish legend, Grado will front the car-based gameshow where three teams of two go on a road trip through some of Scotland’s most beautiful landscapes en route to a mystery destination.

Three teams of two families or friends take to their cars and head out on the road to answer a series of questions set by a Satnav dictating whether they take the short route or the long way round. Get an answer right and you’re on the shortest route to the prize. Get answers wrong and the competitors will be sent on a detour that takes them further from winning. The winner of the show will have travelled the least mileage and consequently have answered the most questions correctly.

Test Drive is executive produced by Bandicoot co-founder Derek McLean and Daniel Nettleton and is due to air in 2019. Commenting on the commission, McLean (pictured) said: “Test Drive will definitely put families through their paces as they attempt to win the prize in this fun-filled game show. We believe viewers will really enjoy the fast-paced quiz, and we couldn’t be happier that the BBC has decided to commission the series.”

BBC commissioning editor Jo Street added: “Test Drive has energy, innovation and humour at its heart and I was delighted when Derek and Dan showed me the taster idea. It’s a fresh way of doing a quiz, a perfect vehicle for Grado and is precisely the sort of dynamic format we want to back on the new BBC Scotland channel.”
