Tata Sky boosts new programming after channel cull

India’s Tata Sky is adding six channels to its direct-to-home (DTH) TV platform, following the removal of 26 channels last month due to the expiry or breach of contract.
The new channels comprise: Surya Bhakti, TV 24, News World India, Shalini Plus, Naxatra News, and Cartoon Network HD+.
Surya Bhakti is a devotional channel; TV 24 and News World India are Hindi news channels; Shalini Plus is a Marathi news channel; Naxatra News is from Odia; and Cartoon Network HD is Turner Broadcasting’s children and family-focused entertainment channel.
The five standard definition channels will be available at a price of INR10 per month while Cartoon Network HD+ will cost INR20 per month.
The channels dropped in October from Tata Sky’s platform include Al Jazeera, Manoranjan Movies, R Plus, Music F, Sangeet Bhojpuri, Mastiii, 9X Tashan, Swara Sagar, Captain TV, Mega TV, News 7 Tamil, Kalaignar Isai Aruvi, Kalaignar Sirippoli, Kalaignar, Kalaignar Seithigal, Jinvani TV, Oscar Movies Bhojpuri, News Time Bangla, Dhoom Music Bangla, Rupasi Bangla, Prag News, Vedic, Aastha Bhajan, Care World, Janta TV, and Puthiya Thalaimurai.
At the beginning of last month, Tata Sky removed 27 channels from Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) after a breakdown in contract negotiations.
