STV strikes strategic partnership with Eleven Sports

Expanding upon its plans to grow its subscription sports service across Europe and in particular the UK, global sports provider Eleven Sports has today announced a new partnership with leading Scottish digital media brand STV.
Digital broadcaster Eleven Sports is the current exclusive home of leading European football such as La Liga and Serie A, broadcasting up to 20 live football matches every week including the Milan derby and El Clásico between Real Madrid and Barcelona. It also broadcast this year’s PGA Golf Championship as part of over 30,000 live hours of top sporting action globally.
Eleven Sports has what it calls a ‘For the Fans’ strategy which the platform has implemented across its global markets, making select events widely accessible and freely available. In addition to using online video and OTT platforms, the company has also inked a deal with Facebook making the social media platform its free-to-air partner in the UK and Ireland.
The new deal will be part of STV’s own three-year growth strategy and will see the Scottish broadcaster act as exclusive digital sales agent for Eleven Sports across all digital platforms and sponsorship as the latter aims to achieve its key objective of driving digital advertising growth alongside maximising its broadcast business and building what it believes will be a ‘world-class’ production company.
The deal also builds on STV’s experience in marketing STV Player, claimed to be the UK’s fastest-growing broadcaster video on demand service, to advertisers. It will harness STV’s expertise in providing marketing solutions around premium digital content and will aim to ensure advertisers can target their products and services to Eleven Sports viewers right across the UK.
