In a move that it says reflects the booming global demand for content from the UK indie sector, and as it positions itself to meet demand for its new and returning series, back2back has made a triple hire of full-time production talent.
The independent entertainment production company is currently in production on 61 hours of programming, with more under negotiation, much of which consists of second and third series of its core brands. The Brighton-based producer, which currently has a full-time staff of over 50, has embarked on an expansion strategy, founded on developing, creating and funding programming for broadcasters in the UK and the US.
Leading back2back’s hires is the appointment of Anna Boronat (pictured left) as head of production, with Claire Hamilton taking up the post of senior production executive, while Mitzi David moving into the role of junior production executive.
Described as a seasoned line producer and production manager, Boronat brings more than 20 years’ experience from entertainment companies including RDF, Shine, Firecracker and Fever Media. Her credits include several UK and US primetime hits: BBC One’s Masterchef, TLC’s Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding, ITV’s 71 Degrees North and BBC Two’s Repair Shop. Boronat recently served as Production Manager on back2back’s Duran Duran: There’s Something You Should Know, one of the two 60-minute specials that formed the backbone of a night of Duran Duran programming on BBC Four.
For her part, Hamilton has held line producer and production manager roles at a range of production companies, including Fresh One and Keo Films, as well as working as a locations manager specialising in managing productions in some of the world’s toughest environments. Having joined back2back in 2016 as a production manager on Cars That Rock with Brian Johnson Series 3, Hamilton has since managed five back2back series at production executive level.
Mitzi David has similarly worked as a freelance production manager on several back2back shows since 2016, including Mega Shippers for Discovery, Scrap Kings for Quest and Viasat, and Help! My House is Haunted for UKTV. David’s broad experience ranges from live TV to large-scale events, sport, documentaries, awards ceremonies and daytime, reality and paranormal shows.
Commenting on the hires, David Notman-Watt, back2back founder and managing director, said: “Last year was back2back’s most successful to date. We posted a turnover of £3 million and this figure looks set to be beaten in 2018/19. Our dramatic growth is down to an exceptionally talented and hard-working team — a team that has now been strengthened by three highly experienced production team members. Anna, Claire and Mitzi will help us to harness the momentum of the last two years as we work to build the brands and returning series that are the DNA of our business.”
