Global video delivery firm MainStreaming has entered into a partnership with Sky Italia to provide high-quality video in real time directly to its subscribers on the Sky Go, Sky Q and Now TV platforms.
The two companies says that their partnership represents an important step towards improving the way video is currently distributed. Sky will make use of MainStreaming’s proprietary HyperNode technology— which is designed to enable broadcasters and OTT providers to transmit video in real-time — to support its offers over fibre networks.
MainStreaming adds that the deal also highlights its capabilities in providing major broadcasters with a distribution solution that meets all streaming needs for premium live, linear and on-demand content.
“We are very happy to work with such a major player like Sky, which serves more than 4 million users just in Italy and we are convinced that this is a great opportunity, both for MainStreaming and Sky Italia,” said MainStreaming COO Philippe Tripodi. “As the demand to move videos from satellite to online is constantly increasing for broadcasters, our advanced technology and ability to be agile with client needs enables us to meet the requirements of big global players like Sky.”
Added Massimo Bertolotti, Sky Italia’s CTO of broadband: “We are always looking for innovative technology that allows us to offer our subscribers the best quality of experience when watching video content. The innovation brought by MainStreaming makes us the market leader in the distribution of online video, and at the same time, allows us to renew the way video is transmitted.”
