In a move said to reflect the multi-genre TV production company’s expansion, Expectation Factual has appointed Emily Dollman as head of development.

Formed in early 2017 by Peter Fincham and Tim Hincks, Expectation is backed by BBC Worldwide and is developing and making programmes for leading UK broadcasters. In all genres, Expectation says that its emphasis is on original content and formats, strong talent relationships and creative partnerships with broadcasters and distributors.

Expectation Factual’s recent productions include: Trans Kids: It’s Time to Talk which broadcast on Channel 4; Superkids: Breaking Away from Care on Channel 4; a six-part series with Jason Atherton for BBC Two, The Brigade; eight-part factual series Murder which is being made for BBC Two. Other factual and factual drama scripts have been commissioned or are in development for announcement in due course. In 2018, Expectation Factual has contributed the three-part series Travels in Trumpland with Ed Balls on BBC Two and Reggie Yates: Searching for Grenfell’s Lost Lives, also for BBC Two.

Head of development is a new role within Expectation which also boasts senior executive producers Ruth Kelly and Dominique Foster who joined earlier this year.

Dollman joins the company from Maverick TV, where as head of development for three years she was responsible for developing commissions: Inside The Ritz for ITV; Escape for Channel 4; Tried and Tasted for Channel 4 and Bizarre ER for E4. Emily’s production experience includes working on a broad range of programmes such as The Apprentice, The Voice, The Audience and The Young Ones.

Commenting on the appointment, Expectation Factual creative director, factual and factual drama, Colin Barr, said: “Emily has all the cross genre instincts and abilities that a company like Expectation needs. She’s as comfortable with concept as she is editorial and her energy and ambition are the perfect fit. We’re lucky to have her.”

Dollman added: “I am incredibly excited by the opportunity to be working with such amazingly talented people as Colin, Amy, Peter and Tim and the rest of the Expectation team. I am really looking forward to creating a slate of bold and exciting factual formats.”
