STV kicks off Eleven Sports with LaLiga, Serie A football

Less than a week after sealing a rights deal, the STV Player has shown leading European football coverage featuring Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo through its partnership with Eleven Sports.

Eleven Sports is the current exclusive home of leading European football such as La Liga and Serie A, broadcasting up to 20 live football matches every week including the Milan derby and El Clásico between Real Madrid and Barcelona. It also broadcast this year’s PGA Golf Championship as part of over 30,000 live hours of global sporting action. The new deal will be part of STV’s own three-year growth strategy and will see the Scottish broadcaster act as exclusive digital sales agent for Eleven Sports across all digital platforms and sponsorship as the latter aims to achieve its key objective of driving digital advertising growth alongside maximising its broadcast business and building what it believes will be a ‘world-class’ production company.

The weekend of sport included 14 live fixtures free-to-air on the streaming player kicked off with Real Madrid’s’ surprise defeat at Eibar and also included later in the day the hard-fought 1-1 draw between Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona in LaLiga, featuring Lionel Messi. The programme also features Serie A football between Lazio vs AC Milan and games involving games Juventus, Sevilla and Napoli.

Beyond this weekend, Eleven Sports will also make available two matches from LaLiga and Serie A to the STV Player every match week.
