Deepening its focus on the UK’s nations and regions, Indielab Accelerator has announced the opening of its 2019 growth programme for TV indies who are looking to develop and achieve scale.
The 2019 event will mark the fourth iteration of the Indielab Accelerator and the organisers say that the next edition will comes with a ‘future-focus’ underpinned by a wider nationwide perspective mirroring the nationwide impetus for a more distributed production network across the UK.
Indielab Accelerator offers 15 early and mid-stage content companies a tailored programme to grow their businesses, consisting of growth masterclasses, global market insight and investment-readiness designed by the sector for the sector.
The 2019 event will also see the social enterprise develop a series of new strands and diversifications under the Indielab brand with a sharpened focus on investment readiness in the programme agenda and a separate ‘pitching for investment’ event. As in previous years, Indielab Accelerator has pledged that half of the event’s participants will be operating in the UK’s nations and regions alongside London based indies, in line with its mission to help nurture sustainable production hubs outside of the UK capital.
Given the programme’s commitment to supporting out-of-London production in 2019, the BBC has increased its support to become a full sponsor and will also be looking to the programme to help increase diversity across the broadcast industry. Channel 4 has also renewed its commitment to the 2019 programme, investing specifically from its Growth Fund and Nations and Regions. Indielab Accelerator 2019 is also being supported — as it has been since its inception — by the Mayor of London’s office through Film London, the UK capital’s screen industries agency.
“Now more than ever the content market is changing rapidly, with domestic spending generally accepted as flat and marked increases in global spend expected,” commented Indielab CEO and founder Victoria Powell. “The UK sector continues to look like a very good place for indies to do business, albeit under a somewhat changing set of rules. No matter which corner of the UK you are based in, there are significant opportunities out the for indies who want to grow. At Indielab we aim to give UK indies the edge by connecting them to the right insight, intel and network to achieve these successes.”
Entries for the 2019 programme are open from now until 7 February 2019. Production companies can apply via the Indielab website: www.weareindielab.co.uk
