YuppTV is supplying a complete over-the-top (OTT) platform to Mumbai-based multi system operator (MSO) 7Star, in the first such technology deal for the South Asian digital video company.

Yupp TV said its end-to-end OTT platform, complete with an Android-based hybrid set top box (STB) to support DVB-C and IPTV as well as OTT video, will now be available to all MSOs.

As India’s extensive cable network undergoes nationwide digitisation, the solution aims to support the burgeoning demand for video streaming apps at the same time as offering established direct-to-home (DTH) satellite and cable TV services, said Yupp TV.

“The way we consume content and media has evolved in the past few years. To the same end, cable TV broadcasters have been on the receiving end of the onslaught by the digital media offerings. Users are more inclined towards OTT platforms, as they no longer have to follow a rigid timeline of telecasts and experience entertainment at their own ease and convenience,” said Uday Reddy, founder & CEO, YuppTV.

“With the launch of our end-to-end OTT solution and Android-based hybrid set top box, we intend to bring the cable operators back in the mix and enable them to offer more enhanced and digital services, without significant overheads.”

7Star director Mahadesh Devendra added: “YuppTV as an established name in the fraternity has come up with a very relevant and power-packed solution. We are happy to associate with the team and allow our users to switch to OTT viewing, at their own ease and convenience.”
