Danish OTT and TV everywhere enabler Xstream has upgraded its service agreement with Norwegian IPTV operator Altibox to a multi-year software-as-a-service (SaaS) business model.

Altibox is a unified brand name for broadband, IPTV and VOIP services distributed in Norway and Denmark with over 35 Norwegian and six Danish networks. The company has used Xstream's services since 2010 and prior to the newly extended contract start, the services were migrated from a data centre in Denmark to the Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The new agreement gives Altibox ongoing access to Xstream's monitoring services, AWS and DRM experts, and enables use of features such as auto-scaling. “The migration to Xstream's cloud services proved important to...securing stability and availability on our TVE service while maintaining a predictable TCO,” said Jarle Johnson, head of IPTV at Altibox. “It also ensures that capacity can be scaled up and down on AWS according to market needs.”

The transfer was said by to be a ‘simple one-go’ experience due to Xstream's expertise and track record in cloud-based and scalable services. “This extended agreement between the two firms is all about ensuring a viable business model that follows Altibox's growth,” added Xstream CEO Michael Rasmussen (pictured). “Xstream's cloud SaaS services will now be used on a flexible, usage driven SaaS billing basis.”
