Taking the high road to the low countries, NBCUniversal’s reality-focused subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service hayu has launched in The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
Targeting a broad base of viewers who are fans of the reality genre, hayu claims to combine a unique user experience with the best in over-the-top (OTT) technology. The streaming service includes over 6,000 episodes of reality content from 200+ shows, the majority of which debut on the service the same day as they premiere in the US. There is also a collection of box sets available on the app. Reality content includes Keeping Up with the Kardashians and its spin-offs along with The Real Housewives and Million Dollar Listing franchises, Below Deck and Made in Chelsea.
The service is available direct-to-consumer on a range of devices such as mobile, tablet and web. The curated service also offers users the ability to download shows to view on the go without access to the internet.
hayu launched in the UK, Ireland and Australia in March 2016 and followed in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark in November 2017. Its most recent launch was in Canada in late September 2018. The Benelux move is regarded as a key milestone in the continued growth for the service, and will by the end of 2018 extend the number of hayu subscriber markets to 11 countries.
“Our direct-to-consumer launches in The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg are the next key expansion for hayu as we pick up the pace broadening the service’s geographic footprint,” commented Hendrik McDermott, SVP, branded on-demand, NBCUniversal International. “hayu’s popularity as a must-have service delivering the best in reality – built off the foundation of NBCUniversal’s formidable expertise as a producer of reality programming – is fuelling our on-going momentum and we look forward to introducing the service to a new community of reality fans across the Benelux countries.”
