Romanian broadcaster PRO TV is the first European customer for Sony’s new HDC-3500 live production camera, investing in eight of the camera chains that will be used for live entertainment and sports productions.
Part of the CME media and entertainment network, PRO TV is part of the CME media and entertainment company, which operates leading businesses in four Central and Eastern European markets, with an aggregate population of more than 40 million people.
Said to be leading a new generation of powerful yet cost-effective system cameras from, the Sony HDC-3500 features what is claimed to be the world’s first 2/3-inch 4K global shutter three CMOS sensor system. It is developed specifically to meet the demands of modern live production. The broadcaster has also chosen the PXW-Z280 and PXW-Z150 camcorders for their mainstream and local studio productions, alongside Sony’s dual channel UWP wireless microphone packages as well as the HDCU-3100, the IP-enabled camera control unit.
While the camera chains will be deployed initially for standard HD production, the HDC-3500 offers PRO TV and upgrade path to 4K/HD HDR operation. Building on the capabilities of Sony’s established HDC-2000 series, the HDC-3500 supports HD, HDR and 4K as well as IP capabilities. It also provides Sony’s ‘SR Live for HDR’ workflow, enabling simultaneous HDR and SDR production with just one production team.
“After evaluating the HDC-3500, it quickly became clear that the camera’s compelling blend of picture quality, reliability and operational flexibility fitted perfectly into our operational long-term plans,” said Bogdan Andreescu, PRO TV’s technical director.
