Thailand’s public broadcaster MCOT has agreed a deal with BBC Studios to be the first broadcaster in Southeast Asia of a BBC First programme block.
The BBC First block, which will debut on MCOT’s free-to-air Channel 9 in mid-February 2019, will provide drama such as McMafia starring James Norton and crime drama Luther starring Idris Elba as the maverick cop DI John Luther. Press – a drama about journalists working on broadsheet and tabloid newspapers in London – is also among the BBC content to be offered.
“British drama is working remarkably well with audiences, with outstanding talent producing some of the very best television in the world,” said Myleeta Aga, SVP & GM of South & South East Asia, BBC Studios. “We are excited to be working with MCOT to bring premium British drama to Thai audiences, backed by the BBC First brand.”
BBC First is also available as a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) channel in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, and as a block in Japan. It can also be accessed via BBC Player online and as an app in Singapore and Malaysia.
