Broadcaster MBC has acquired the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) rights for Formula E electric auto street racing for the next two seasons.
MBC Action will air the final practice race, the qualifier and the Formula E-Prix, in addition to post race highlights and programming between each season’s races.
Race previews and a magazine show called Street Racers will also be part of the programming mix.
The free-to-air satellite broadcaster will also air the new Jaguar I-PACE eTrophy support series live across MBC channels, showing the first production battery electric vehicle category using modified road cars.
“We’re pleased to be bringing the ABB FIA Formula E Championship to so many viewers across the Middle East and North Africa together with MBC Action,” said Ali Russell, media and business development director of Formula E.
The news comes after Saudi Arabia’s General Sports Authority and Saudi Arabian Motor Federation confirmed ambitious plans for the Formula E’s arrival in the Kingdom this December.
The inaugural 2018 Saudia Ad Diriyah E-Prix took place on the weekend of 13-15 December along with a music festival headlined DJ David Guetta, One Republic, Enrique Iglesias and The Black Eyed Peas.
For a third consecutive season, Marrakech will host the next E-Prix, on 12 January 2019.
The 2018/19 Formula E season will conclude with a double-header in New York on 13-14 July 2019.
