Tegna local TV stations have resolved their retransmission impasse in the US with Verizon, the new deal seeing the broadcaster’s station feeds now returned to Verizon FiOS customers.
Mere days before the NFL playoffs start, Tegna television stations earlier this week went dark in the three US markets.in the three US markets.
Specific terms of the deal have not yet been released but the multi-year carriage agreement covers WUSA TV in Washington, DC; WVEC TV in Norfolk, Va; and WGRZ TV in Buffalo, NY.
FiOS customers don’t yet have a full lineup; the multicultural Fuse channel remains blacked out; the two were unable to come to a carriage deal to replace the one that expired on New Year’s Eve.
“This is another instance of one of our nation’s largest telecommunications companies taking action inconsistent with its public posture regarding diversity. While claiming to be committed to supporting customers from underserved communities, Verizon FiOS is removing unique content programmed to the passions and values of the large and growing multi-cultural millennial audience,” commented Fuse Media president and CEO Michael Schwimmer.
