Live, live-2-VOD and on-demand OTT services provider Simplestream has strengthened its VOD in a Box technology with download for offline viewing and Chromecast integration across its mobile services.

Explain the rationale for the enhancement, the company says today’s fast-evolving mediascape has propelled the high expectations consumers have for quality viewing experiences – anytime, anywhere and on any device. Aiming to deliver this for its customers, Simplestream now provides Chromecast receiver apps, the flexibility to adjust download bitrates and custom retention periods; with video and audio download support on mobile- and tablet-supported OTT services.

These features are already in use by History Hit TV, NextUp Comedy and Marquee – all services that were designed, built and launched by Simplestream over the last twelve months – and were rolled out at no additional cost to the customers.

“TV is more immersive, interactive and personalised than ever before, so it’s imperative to make sure our customers are equipped with the best tools and features to provide enhanced viewing experiences for their subscribers,” commented Simplestream chief product officer Lewis Arthur. “The growth of mobile video is an exciting opportunity for our industry, driving increased investment and fuelling consumption. Offline viewing capability and Chromecast integration are valuable differentiators to any OTT service, and help content owners and service providers remain competitive.

“Untethered access enables our customers to give their viewers more control over their entertainment experience by connecting seamlessly with their favourite content, making these services more relevant and accessible. These are game-changing capabilities that have been months in the making, so I’m thrilled that they are now live and ready to be put to great use by our customers – and their viewers.”
