beIN, CNE resolve channel carriage dispute

Qatar-based TV network beIN is once again available to viewers of Cable Network Egypt (CNE), after the two parties reached a new carriage agreement.

CNE is the only authorised distributor of beIN Media Group channels in Egypt. beIN channels, which had been cut on 8 January 2019, have now returned to CNE following 24 hours off air.

No financial details have been released. However, the pan-Arab media organisation confirmed the availability of its sports network, once again, in Egypt.

“beIN Sports is pleased to announce that Cable Network Egypt (CNE) has now signed an agreement for the carriage of beIN on its network...We are delighted that fans across Egypt can now, once again, have access to the best and most exciting sports and entertainment in the world, including all top global football leagues and competitions,” said beIN in a statement.

beIN is the regional rights holder of many major football events, including the English Premier League, in which Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, recently crowned African footballer of the year, plays club football for Liverpool.

In addition, beIN holds the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) rights to all Confederation of African Football (CAF) matches, including the African Cup of Nations, which Egypt is set to host later this year.

Other top flight European football leagues, including France’s LaLiga, Germany’s Bundesliga, Spain’s Ligue 1 and Italy’s Serie A, along with UEFA’s Champions League and Europa League competitions, are also carried exclusively by beIN across MENA.
