Thailand’s pay-TV operator TrueVisions has agreed terms to lease Ku-band satellite transponder space on Thaicom’s SpaceX delivered satellite Thaicom 8.

The deal will enable TrueVisions to transfer the delivery of its subscription services from its existing capacity on Thaicom 5 to Thaicom 8 this year. The two satellites, along with Thaicom 6, are co-located in orbit at 78.5 degrees East.

“This long-term transponder capacity contract will support the mission of TrueVisions to provide premium pay-TV broadcasting services to all subscribers in Thailand”, said Patompob (Nile) Suwansiri, chief commercial officer, Thaicom.

“It proves that satellite technology remains a strong value proposition for broadcast expansion in Thailand.”

Launched in May 2016, Thaicom-8 is providing 24 Ku-band transponders to support Southeast Asia’s broadcasting industry as it transitions from standard definition to high definition (HD) and ultra high definition (UHD). The Orbital ATK designed satellite has an intended life of 15 years.
