Disney Broadcasting India is launching a new children’s superhero channel Marvel HQ in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on 20 January.
The new channel, airing animated and live-action content featuring Marvel favourites such as Ironman, Hulk, Thor, Captain America and Spiderman, will replace action-adventure channel Disney XD, which is closing down.
Targeted at children aged nine and above, Marvel HQ has a maximum retail price of INR4.
“The opportunity and timing are right to have a Marvel-branded channel. We will cater to people who want to see, to know more about Marvel,” said Devika Prabhu, executive director, head product media networks, Disney India.
“The aim is to create that first window experience for a Marvel fan. We wanted to create a curated Marvel experience on television. In India, Marvel has really become a pop culture phenomenon. The popularity, affinity over the past decade has really been growing. It transcends age groups, geographies, and cities,” she added.
