Pagan Peak climbs across Europe

Beta Film has revealed that just as the drama series Pagan Peak, a Sky Original Production, premieres in Germany and Austria, it is gaining traction across the continent of Europe.

The show begins with the discovery of a gruesomely staged body propped up on a mountain pass in the Alps close to the German-Austrian border. Two detectives are sent to investigate. For German detective Ellie (Julia Jentsch), this is the first real challenge of her career; her Austrian counterpart Gedeon (Nicholas Ofczarek) though seems to have lost any ambitions in his job. Very soon, they discover more crime scenes with symbolically posed victims, reminiscent of pagan rituals. It all seems to be part of a bigger, sinister plan. Ellie finds herself under increasing pressure to understand the deranged killer's motives so she can stop him. The hunt leads them ever deeper in the dark valleys and archaic Alpine customs – and the paranoid world of the killer.

The series has been distributed by Beta Film to broadcasters such as Sky for the UK and Ireland but also Rai in Italy, Belgium’s Telenet, Netherland’s Ziggo, Canal+ in Poland and Czech TV. In addition, the eight-hour high-end production will be also aired in Russia (Yandex) and Australia (SBS). Sales to several other territories are in advanced negotiations.

Pagan Peak is produced by Academy Award-winning producer duo Wiedemann and Berg Television (Netflix’s Dark, Lives of Others, Never Look Away) for Sky Deutschland in co-production with Dieter and Jakob Pochlatko’s epo-film produktionsges.m.b.h. in Austria. Austrian author Mike Majzen contributed to the script. Pagan Peak was a part of MIPDrama Buyers Summit last year and celebrated its world premiere at Tribeca TV Festival.

Writer/director duo Cyrill Boss and Philipp Stennert (Rivals Forever - The Sneaker Battle, Victoria & the Secret of Crocodile Mansion) are creative heads of the series.
