Asian online video service iflix is teaming with Twitter to live stream more than 200 matches from the Malaysian Football League (MFL).
Coverage of the entire MFL season, which began this weekend, will be available to stream for free on Twitter across Southeast Asia. The social media platform will use iflix’s new Webview Player to enable fans to participate in the real-time commentary, interactive game-play, and featured polls throughout each match.
“Broadcasting every game of the season for a premier first division football league is a first for Twitter in Southeast Asia, and a remarkable opportunity to combine the huge amount of football conversation on the platform with the premium content that drives us,” said Maurizio Barbieri, Twitter head of sports partnerships, SEA and Greater China.
As well as the live matches, iflix will produce real-time highlights, clips and interviews and make them available on Twitter Moments as what it calls “an immersive – and shareable” football community building tool for fans and clubs.
“This is a massive leap forward for iflix in our mission to democratise Malaysia’s favourite sport. Last season, we set out to return football to the people, the true fans of the game, who were denied access by expensive, monopolistic cable companies,” said Mark Britt, co-founder and CEO, iflix.
“We are so proud to be the first video streaming service in Southeast Asia to power MFL live-streaming technology on Twitter and driven by the opportunity to liberate the sport and empower the fans.”
Iflix acquired the exclusive online streaming rights to MFL matches in a 10-year deal in January 2018. Since then it has provided live coverage on the dedicated Football Malaysia on iflix channel of major tournaments including Piala Sumbangsih, unifi Liga Super, Shopee Piala FA and the inaugural Malaysia Challenge Cup.
iflix is also collaborating with football portals Semuanya Bola and Goal.com to integrate its live stream services.
