To install ubuntu you have to create a CD or usb boot disk with the version you want.
Can you do that in first ?
Your computer using now ubuntu if you need more apps like mythTV or Kodi you've to install it.
It's easiest with the searching/installer app but not always possible.
You sometimes need to use command line to do.
Can you do this?

I recommand you've got a second useless system to check & keep the first one to visit internet & get support.

The Ubuntu community is reactive & provide precious help.

It exists some special ubuntu version for multimedia
that already contains TV player, recorder etc...
You always need to install a cam if you need to decrypt scranbled channels but it's an another thing.
