Scripted, formats and factual distributor Red Arrow Studios International has secured the global rights to new home makeover format Renovate Don’t Relocate created, developed and produced by UK indie Outline Productions.

The programme is said to mix smart technology, design, and engaging stories to create a home makeover show that is said to not only transform homes, but the way they are used.

In each episode, an expert host comes to the aid of homeowners living in a property that no longer works for them. Cameras are installed to monitor how people really use their homes, and the data collected helps create a life-size floor plan that highlights problem areas and brings the expert’s design, layout and décor ideas to life. The host then tracks the renovation over the following months, and a final reveal of the completed project sets out to prove that, if you re-think and re-design the space you have, it is better – and cheaper – to renovate, not relocate.

Originally commissioned by UKTV for its free-to-air channel Really, the original UK version —Sarah Beeny’s Renovate Don’t Relocate- is set to debut in March 2019. Helen Veale is on board as creative director for the series, with Outline Productions MD Laura Mansfield as executive producer.

“We’re really excited about Renovate Don’t Relocate,” said Mansfield. “[It is] an innovative format that provides viewers with a new way of thinking about how they can make affordable, practical changes to their homes to suit their lifestyles.”

“The combination of new technology and relatable human stories in Renovate Don’t Relocate provides a fresh twist on the perennially popular traditional home improvement genre,” added Bo Stehmeier, president of Red Arrow Studios International. “We look forward to taking this creative new format to MipTV and seeing it debut on UKTV next month.”
