Enabling it to enter the DTC area and also the fast-growing pay-TV market for the first time, Scottish broadcaster STV has announced the launch of an ad-free subscription video-on-demand service for Scots at home and abroad.

The new STV Player+ will provide access to all of STV’s programming in full HD, but without ads. Programming available includes soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale, entertainment shows like Britain’s Got Talent and I’m a Celebrity, boxsets like Cold Feet, Vera and Manhunt, and sporting events like the Six Nations Rugby and forthcoming 2019 Rugby World Cup. Subscribers, who will pay £3.99 per month, will be able to catch up ad-free or watch live with no pre-roll advertising as well as download favourite programmes for offline viewing at home or on the move.

Viewers can subscribe to STV Player+ directly from their STV Player app or download it from the Apple App Store to run on iOS devices. Compatibility for other platforms will be announced in due course.

“We are delighted to be able to enhance our offering to STV viewers,” commented STV managing director, digital, Richard Williams. “Subscription viewing is growing, and the STV Player+ offers our viewers even greater choice and flexibility in how they watch STV, ensuring that they can access their favourite STV shows however and whenever they want, whether at home or abroad.”
