Telemundo has scheduled the US premiere of the return of La Reina del Sur (the Queen of the South), for Monday, 22 April.

The most successful series in Telemundo’s history stars Kate del Castillo, who returns to claim her throne as Teresa Mendoza. Based on the novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Mendoza rises through the ranks to lead a powerful drug cartel.

In preparation for the premiere, the Spanish-language network is airing a Special Edition Season 1 beginning, which will also be available with English subtitles across all platforms including Telemundo App, VOD and Telemundo.com.

“This feels like coming home again,” added series star del Castillo and to download the video promo, click here.
. “Teresa means a lot to me. It’s the role that allowed me to conquer the medium in a way that impacted my life. I am glad audiences will get a chance to see how it all began with the special edition of the first season. They will experience first-hand why the original series still reigns supreme in this genre. Just know that the upcoming new season is all that and more. Much, much more of what audiences demand from television today.”

Shot on location in eight countries, the return of La Reina del Sur is set eight years after powerful drug trafficker Teresa Mendoza disappeared into the US Federal Witness Protection Program for bringing down Mexican presidential candidate Epifanio Vargas. Hers is now a life of total anonymity as ‘Maria Dantes,’ who is peacefully raising her daughter Sofia in the Tuscan village of Massa Marittima in Italy. However, her life takes an unexpected turn, and she will do the impossible to reclaim her throne as La Reina del Sur.
