Aiming to celebrate pioneering women in the latest of its slate of original programming, Yahoo Finance has announced the launch of its new video series, Global Change Agents with Lianna Brinded.
The series — to be filmed in sister company Verizon Media’s new UK studio — aims to showcase the career journeys of some of the most influential women in advertising, business, tech and academia, who helped to radically transform their industries. The 18-episode series will premiere globally on 3 April and run twice monthly for nine months.
Hosted by Lianna Brinded, head of Yahoo Finance UK, and exec-produced by journalist Lara O’Reilly, and will delve into all the ways women shape the world we do business in, industries that run people’s lives, and what we can learn from their career paths which helped to revolutionise the profession they work in. Each episode will deliver exclusive interviews and insight from industry-defining women in power – from CEOs to CMOs – around the world. Women confirmed so far to feature in the series include Eileen Burbidge MBE, Partner at Passion Capital and Chair of Tech Nation, Justine Roberts CBE, Founder and CEO, Mumsnet and Gransnet, Joanne Hannaford, head of EMEA Technology at Goldman Sachs, and Syl Saller, Diageo CMO.
The series will also be supported by a podcast series to widen audiences as part of Yahoo’s continued focus on audio, which has also included a number of hugely successful podcast shows.
Over the past year Yahoo has been investing heavily in video with original programming including a series centred around the 2018 FIFA World Cup, The 32, which was sponsored by Volkswagen; the Royal Box which has amassed over 24 million views globally and its bi-weekly football series, “The Football Show, which is currently sponsored by FedEx to support its campaign for the UEFA Europa Football League.
The series will be available on 3 April and available to watch on Yahoo Finance, claims on average over 100 million worldwide multi-platform visitors per month, and the Yahoo Finance app.
“We are so excited to share the stories of these trailblazing women through Global Change Agents with Lianna Brinded,” said Lianna Brinded, head of Yahoo Finance UK.
“There are so many incredible women who are radically transforming global industries which, in turn, are reshaping the way we live. We know that organisations with more female managers make more money—and studies show that women in general are better leaders. But what we also know is that there is a woeful dearth of women at the top of the corporate ladder across the globe. We think it is hugely important to spotlight these incredible women and highlight the impact and importance of women in business. Championing women in business has been a big focus for Yahoo Finance globally and is part of our DNA, so this series feels like a natural next step.”
Anna Watkins, UK managing director, Verizon Media added: “I am looking forward to showcasing Global Change Agents with Lianna Brinded...It not only champions our global commitment to women in business and diversity, but it also reinforces our commitment to creating unique and compelling video content that consumer audiences want to watch and through which brands can partner with us. Companies are waking up to the fact that a diverse workforce makes sense for their business: according to the 2018 McKinsey diversity study, it’s been proven that companies are 21% more likely to outperform competitors if they have a more gender balanced workforce.”
