Imagine Television is developing its first Chinese language series, a science fiction action drama written by Oscar Yang.

Mindscaping will be a 24 episode series, co-financed by Endeavour China, the Hollywood agency's joint venture with internet giant Tencent and Sequoia Capital.

Its plot follows a man unwittingly brought into the city’s dark underbelly after a friend is wrongly accused of a crime. He uncovers a crime syndicate that uses mind-control to amass its power.

The project is part of Imagine Television’s focus on international expansion through development and co-production of Chinese-language projects with a global appeal.

“We are thrilled to be developing Imagine’s first Chinese language series. We look forward to collaborating with local Chinese writers to seamlessly blend storytelling styles that speak to both Eastern and Western audiences,” said Imagine Television’s chairmen Brian Grazer (pictured) and Ron Howard.

Grazer and Howard and Imagine Television chairman Francie Calfo will be executive producers for the series. Janice Chua (Crazy Rich Asians) will oversee the project for Imagine. Trey Callaway (CSI:NY, Supernatural) and TV producer Lillah McCarthy will act as story consultants.

Li Ruigang’s China Media Capital (CMC) has a minority equity stake in Imagine Television, which it acquired in 2017. Imagine Television also has a US$100 million TV co-financing joint venture with Hong Kong free-to-air broadcaster TVB, in which CMC holds a significant stake.
