Eleven television channel licences have been granted by India’s ministry of information and broadcasting.
The new licences, in the non-news category, have been given to three broadcasters: Viacom18, Star India, and Hare Krsna Content Broadcast.
Viacom18 has received nine licences under the following names: BDM, Connected, Eco-Lution, Hawa Mahal, IMIX, My Tube, Pick-A-Trick, Story City, and Treble.
Star India has received a licence under the name Star Gold 2 HD, while Hare Krsna Content Broadcast has received the licence to launch Hare Krsna.
All 11 licences allow both uplinking and downlinking.
In February the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting awarded four new TV channel licences to ABP News Network, and one to Creative Channel Advertising and Marketing.
ABP News Network was granted uplinking and downlinking licences under the names ABP Andhra, ABP Ganga, ABP Kannada, and ABP Tamil.
