Indian over-the-top (OTT) platform ZEE5 has unveiled its latest original series, Poison, starring actor/director Arbaaz Khan in his digital debut.
The 10 episode mystery thriller, which streams worldwide from 19 April, also stars Tanuj Virwani, Freddy Daruwala and Riya Sen.
Poison is produced by Altus Media, directed by Jatin Wagle and written by Shiraz Ahmed.
Set in Goa, the story kicks-off with Ranveer (Tanuj Virwani), who, after completing his jail sentence, is on a mission of retribution.
The web medium has given wings to content that cannot be shown in two or three-hour format and needs a longer duration format to bring the story to life. I am glad that I had the backing of a platform like ZEE5 and the cast who had the confidence to present the show the way I had envisioned it, said Jatin Wagle, director, Poison.
Archana Anand (pictured), chief business officer, ZEE5 Global said: We aim to bring to our ZEE5 audiences around the globe the best stories, not just in terms of storylines and characters but also genres and themes, and all in the language of their choice. Poison is an edgy, nail-biting thriller with a strong script and cast that our audiences across countries are sure to love.
The series follows other originals on the video streaming platform including Rangbaaz, The Final Call, Abhay, and Karenjit Kaur The Untold Story of Sunny Leone. As well as original shows, ZEE5s content library includes Bollywood hits like Simbaa, Uri, Veere Di Wedding and Namaste England, and TV Shows including Kundali Bhagya, Jodhaa Akbar, Sembaruthi, Poove Poochoodava.
As of December 2018, ZEE5 claimed 56.3 million monthly active users, who spend an average of 31 minutes on the OTT platform per day.
