IPL 2019: 14% rise in TV viewers for first fortnight

Some 345 million viewers have tuned in to watch the first two weeks of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 coverage on Star India, according to BARC India measurement data.

Representing a 14% rise in viewers compared to the same period of last year, TV viewership delivered 29.8 million average impressions in the first two weeks of this season’s IPL.

In Hindi speaking markets (HSM) the TV audience grew by 24%, with a 15% increase in the T20 cricket tournament’s viewer base in Southern India compared to the same period of 2018.

Driven by the Sunday Funday feed on Star Gold, the amount of children tuning in n by 34%, driven by the Super Funday feed on Star Gold.

The most viewed IPL matches during the week were Mumbai Indians v. Chennai Super Kings (with 19.1 million impressions), Royal Challengers Bangalore v. Kolkata Knight Riders (with 17.7 million impressions), Kolkata Knight Riders v. Delhi Capitals (with 14.9 million), Royal Challengers Bangalore v. Rajasthan Royals (with 14.5 million impressions), and Kings XI Punjab v. Delhi Capitals (with 13.6 million impressions).

Star Sports topped the entire top five sports genre channels for the week, with Star Sports 1 Hindi garnering the most viewers, followed by Star Sports 2, Star Sports 1, Star Sports First, and Star Sports 1 HD.
