While the NFL openly looks for a streaming partner for its Sunday Ticket out-of-market package, its linear TV partner, DirecTV, has dropped its flagship cable net from its own over-the-top offering.
AT&T has told DirecTV Now and U-verse TV subscribers will no longer have access to NFL Network.
“As we continue to manage content costs, we could not reach an agreement with the NFL to continue to carry their channels on U-Verse TV and DirecTV Now,” AT&T said in a website posting. However, NFL Network will remain on the DirecTV satellite service, for now.
The news comes as reports have surfaced that the NFL is looking for a new streaming platform for it’s the Sunday Ticket package, which shows all American pro football games regardless of geography. For years, it has had an exclusive distribution deal with DirecTV.
